THANK YOU!

In May 2005, Talia was diagnosed with a rare brain tumor called Choroid Plexus Carcinoma. She underwent surgery to remove the tumor that spring. Her family prayed that was the end, however, in April 2006 doctor’s discovered she had Adrenalcortical Carcinoma and underwent a total resection for that tumor as well.

A routine MRI revealed yet another brain tumor and almost a year to the day, young Talia underwent another difficult surgery to remove 50% of the  tumor.  The doctors began radiation treatments immediately only to discover 2 additional tumors and changed course and began aggressive rounds of chemotherapy and radiation over several months.  In January, doctors delivered more bad news to this young family, that 7 tumors had metastasized to her lungs and required agressive surgery.

By November 2007, five new tumors formed in her tiny lungs. Her oncologist was uncertain if these tumors were operable and advised that Talia would have only 3 months to live without surgery. The surgeon was willing to operate but could not make any promises. However, yet another miracle. Three hours later, the surgery was a success; all of the tumors were removed.

Today, Talia is 4 years old and continues to receive outpatient chemotherapy at Johns Hopkins. It is a clinical trial never used before in children. Her mother says she is doing amazingly well, gaining weight, and enjoying her life as a little girl.

Love floods us with hope, and it is hope that we have for young Talia. Hope for health, for peace, for laughter, for a childhood, and beyond. Chance brought us together, and our hearts have forever been touched by this special little girl.

She and her family continue to fight this terrible disease. This brave little girl has been through so much, please help us honor her and support the 2008 Relay for Life event!
